I went to let the chickens out this morning and on my way back through the garden, egg in hand, I realized there were lots of things that were ready and waiting to be collected. But I didn’t have a basket with me, because when I walked out my mind had been only on the immediate task. As I started picking things, a tomato here and a few peppers there, I realized it was more than I could carry in my hands, or even in my shirt. It was humbling to realize that the gifts on my path were so much more than I needed or expected. They were just there for me to enjoy–as was the metaphor of a profound but simple Grace making it’s way into my awareness. My gratitude for such abundance is to allow it graciously, and to be prepared. Good thing I had a hat!
