Apparently, the space junk is NOT going to fall anywhere in North America. What a relief! Now you don’t have to keep your eye on the sky all day, or dart from one building to another, wondering if it’s your moment to experience that one chance in 21 trillion that you’d be hit by falling debris. Everybody knows there are lots of horrible things that are way more likely to happen to us, statistically speaking anyway, but who wants to think about that?
Consider these incredible odds by comparison; your chances of winning an Academy Award are 1 in 11,500,
of dating a millionaire 1 in 215, of becoming a saint–only one in 20 million! You are much more likely, however, to spot a UFO today– 1 in 3 million, or way more likely to write a NYT best seller– just 1 in 220. I really like that one. A few more…. If you like to play golf, you might want to know that your odds for a hole in one are 1 in 5,000. Baseball fan? You have a 1 in 563 chance of catching a ball at a major league game. There are also 9 out of 10 chances that you have some kind of ice cream in your freezer at this very moment.
But here’s my very favorite one. This is one set of odds that every single person reading this has already beat, and it is SO remote as to be considered, according to the laws of probability and by all scientific accounts, literally next to impossible–and that is the fact that YOU were born! Yes, given the number of human beings on the earth and all of their own zillions of eggs and sperm and whatnot, the chances of all of those things lining up and coming together to create the unique being that is you is so remote, that it can considered nothing less than a miracle, about 1 in 400 QUADrillion, in fact. YOU have won the biggest lottery ever in the history of creation, you and all the other living, breathing miracles all around you. So with that in mind, get out and LOVE your day, not only because in all probability, you are not going to get hit by space junk, but because in spite of all probability, you get to enjoy the miracle of being alive!
